The Children’s Brain Tumour Drug Delivery Consortium (CBTDDC) is an international initiative funded by Children with Cancer UK and led by Professor David Walker from the University of Nottingham, UK.

Launched in March 2017, this initiative aims to:
• raise awareness of the challenge of drug delivery in childhood brain tumours and other brain diseases; and
• initiate and strengthen research collaborations to accelerate the development and translation of drug delivery systems that target brain diseases.

A major challenge to improving the outcome for children with brain tumours is delivering therapeutic and non-toxic concentrations of treatments to the tumour site. This requires either crossing or circumventing the blood-brain barrier. This challenge hinders progress in many brain diseases, not just brain tumours. The CBTDDC was set up to raise awareness of the need to develop combinations of drugs and systems that deliver treatments effectively to the tumour so that their effectiveness can be evaluated without the compromise of poor brain penetration.

We encourage collaborations between multidisciplinary researchers and organisations working on a range of brain diseases. We also liaise with funders, pharma and policymakers to accelerate research progress and bring better treatments to all patients with brain tumours as quickly as possible.
